My commentary I have wanted to create for a long time this just gave me the reason to do it! I also don’t have any artistic ability so it made it a little difficult. I made my image in my head. I thought a lot about how I think people see deportation and why people want it and then how deportation really does affect the people. I did title my commentary deportation. I think the image is pretty easy to follow, but because it has something to do with such a touchy subject it makes it a little hostile. I am trying to get the audience to think about whom we really are deporting and how it affects everyone else. This commentary is meant to stand on its own and is pretty self-explanatory if you take the time to look at it.
Although the message is very clear the only action I am looking for is to change the thinking on deportation. I feel that because it is an image the ethos appeal is hard to get across and the only logos I have is that of common sense in the fact that if we are deporting people and we still have the crime happening among those races we are deporting the wrong people. My pathos appeal is the strongest as you look at the family that is getting their father taken away from them.

This is the URL to my online magazine where this commentary piece and my other pieces written for this class are posted. I was in a group of 4 (including myself) where we chose to write about the topic of immigration and discrimination. In the magazine you will find reports, profiles, and commentaries written by the four of us that were in the group. You will also find an editors note that explains a little bit more about why we chose the topic we chose.
This was a fun project for me and I learned a lot! Not only did I learn a lot about how to make different types of work, as in profiles, reports, and commentaries rather than just essays, I learned about team work and how to build a website. We worked as a team and had a lot of fun to put this together. I think the hardest part for me and this assignment was just getting the whole group to work before the deadline. It was stressful to come down to the last day and find out that the group hasn't done much. It was stressful but it worked out in the end and it just needed a lot of communication.
To be honest this project of the online magazine was good for me. Before english 2010 I did't even know what a commentary was or let a lone how to write one. It was good to learn when to use my opinion and when not to use it and how to create different types of works. I loved learning to write these different pieces and I learned a ton about immigration and deportation in the midst of it all! Overall this was one of my favorite projects!
